Candraft is a leading innovator in Bridge Information Modeling. We’ve spent over ten years customizing and developing Tekla 3D modeling software in order to transform the design and construction of structural steel bridges.

We were founded in Vancouver, Canada in 1979, where we have spent almost 40 years modeling and detailing complex steel bridges. In 1997 we shifted our perspective to technological advancement by purchasing Tekla Structures. As an early adopter of the innovative software, we’ve grown to become one of the premier Bridge Information Modeling companies in the industry today.

Proudly, Candraft won the Tekla Global award for BIM coordination and has been listed in the “Top 100 High Tech Companies” in Vancouver for five years in a row. We’ve also collected over ten “Bridge of the Year” awards from the National Steel Bridge Alliance, a division of the American Institute of Steel Construction.

Our team has taken part in a large number of notable projects including several major rehabilitation projects such as the Huey Long Bridge in New Orleans, the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, NY, and the Winona Bridge in Minnesota.

We operate with a team of more than 65 experienced bridge modelers.

We are also experienced in moveable bridge modeling including:

We have developed macros within Tekla to address specific requirements including vertical curvature, superelevation, camber, shortening and scribing, as well as individual clients’ requirements such as CNC machinery programming, robotic welding, and weld traceability. Our detailing and model services conform with AISC and AASHTO codes and standards.

Gino Pezzente – General Manager

Gino Pezzente joined the Candraft team as a Junior Draftsman in 2003 after completing his Structural Drafting diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. During his time with the company he has held various roles including Senior Checker, Senior Project Manager and Lead Operations Manager. He has been involved in some of the company’s largest structural steel and bridge projects including Transbay Transit Center, the new San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge and Kosciuszko Cable Stay Bridges 1 & 2. Gino was appointed as Chief Operating Officer in 2014 and is involved in all aspects of the firm’s daily responsibilities and operations. Outside of his role at Candraft, he is an avid soccer fan and can be caught chasing down the ball as an Assistant Coach on his daughters soccer team.

Johnny Bautista – Chief Technical Officer

Johnny earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1990 and practiced as a Licensed Civil Engineer in the Philippines. Upon moving to Canada in 2001, he completed his Certificate in Structural Steel Detailing and commenced working for Candraft, where he started honing his detailing and programming skills. Johnny has worked in the steel detailing industry for the past 16 years and has been involved in numerous projects including the San Francisco Transbay Transit Center and the Maitland Pedestrian Bridge. His role varied from programming and development, Tekla network administration to modeling structures with complex geometry. His precise and no-nonsense mindset makes Johnny a formidable opponent on the courts, his favourite go-to for sport and relaxation.

John Cooper – Founder

Founder of Candraft, John Cooper has led the company to industry-leading innovation since 1979. He began his career as apprentice with Redpath-Dorman Long in the UK before moving to Toronto in 1971, and later to Vancouver in 1975. With a vast knowledge in complex steel building and steel bridge information modeling, he built Candraft into the highly respected company it is today. John remains active in the company mentoring younger employees and driving business development towards design assist/design build for complex structures and steel bridges.
